Hirschvogel Automotive Group Becomes the World’s Largest Rotor Shaft Manufacturer for Passenger Cars

“First place and first choice when it comes to rotor shafts”

The supply industry is focusing intensively on the topic of electromobility. With the loss of several conventional parts in the powertrain, sales in the core business are in danger of decline. For this reason, Hirschvogel has been working extensively for a number of years on the development of future parts for electric drives. A particular focus here is on the rotor shaft, which forms the heart of the electric motor or hybrid system. For more than ten years, Hirschvogel has been working together with customers to intensively push ahead with the development of rotor shafts.

Higher Performance Parts for More Efficient Gasoline Injection Systems - Hirschvogel Demonstrates 1,000-bar Stainless Steel Rail

Injection pressures of 2,500 bar and more represent the state of the art in car diesel injection systems. In gasoline injection, systems with 350 bar are on the road. Gasoline injection would also profit from higher injection pressures. Yet, this poses a particular challenge from a materials perspective. The Hirschvogel Automotive Group has tackled this challenge in an internal development project.

Lightweight Forging III: International Lightweight Forging Initiative Meets in Aachen for Hands-On Workshops

The Lightweight Forging Initiative was founded in 2013. During its first phase, it achieved a weight-saving potential of 42 kg in a medium-sized passenger car. The second phase identified a lightweight design potential of 99 kg in a light commercial vehicle.

Phase III kicked off in 2017. 39 steel manufacturers and forging companies from Europe, Japan and the US have come together to uncover the lightweighting potential in a hybrid split-axle four-wheel drive vehicle as well as in parts of a conventional truck powertrain.

Weight Saving Potential in the Chassis – Wheel Hub with Integrated Brake Disk Connection

The wheel hub and brake disk are two important parts in the chassis. The typical interaction of both parts is shown in the upper left of the image: The pot-shaped brake disk is fastened together with the wheel by wheel bolts onto the wheel hub (which in turn is fixed onto the load-carrying chassis part by means of a roller bearing). This demands a high amount of material between the functional surface of the brake disk and the central connection.
