The vast number of gearwheels in manual and double-clutch transmissions are flat, rotationally symmetric forgings from horizontal multi-stage presses. If other geometrical elements are required, however, forging on vertical presses is advisable. The gearwheel with splines is warm forged on vertical presses. This is followed by cold calibration of the splines to ensure they retain their near-net-shape contour.
