This tripod receives internal splines during finishing. To date, the borehole had to be produced by drilling. Now, however, Hirschvogel has integrated an in-line punching operation in the forging process. As the tripod is forged with great precision, it is essential to ensure that no distortion occurs during punching. This thus represents a cost-reduction measure which should ideally be discussed prior to value-stream planning for the finishing process and before designing the machining production line.
