The common rail distributes fuel from the high-pressure pump to the injectors and into the cylinders. Due to the many intersected drilled holes, it is highly loaded when subjected to 2,500 bar, which is the current injection pressure in cars. In addition, lightweighting requirements are continually increasing due to the assembly position above the front axle on top of the engine. Here, Hirschvogel can offer a lightweight design solution, including linear-elastic, non-linear autofrettage and subsequent fatigue simulations, taking into account optimum forgeability.
