Hot Forging

A significant differentiating factor between the various forging processes is the temperature of the billets at the start of the process. During hot forging, the billets are heated to a temperature at which recrystallization processes occur. By means of this, the material does not undergo any work hardening during the forging process and the extent of the deformation ratio is practically unlimited.

Steel normally requires a starting temperature of approx. 1,200 °C (2,200 °F). Hirschvogel carries out closed-die forging. This involves the use of dies which generate the desired part contour in several stages.
