COMPONENT PRODUCTION/MACHINING

The machining of forged parts within the Hirschvogel Automotive Group was carried out centrally at Hirschvogel Komponenten GmbH in Schongau until 2005. By expanding machining know-how at our plants in China, the US and Brazil, we are now able to provide our customers with the same quality at local sites worldwide. The plant in Schongau has also undergone considerable expansion over the past few years, and today functions as a lead plant for production units abroad.

Besides machining customary steel grades, ranging from case-hardening steel to high-alloy steels, stainless materials are also machined in large-series production. Typical applications for these materials are found in environments prone to corrosion, such as filter or fuel systems. Sophisticated aluminum chassis parts are also machined to produce ready-for-assembly components. All raw parts are supplied by the Hirschvogel forging plants. Synergies are thus utilized to the full, enabling optimization of everything from initial clamping operations through to the grain structure required for subsequent heat treatment processes.

Production is carried out on 350 state-of-the-art NC standard machines. These machines are made into cost-efficient units at Hirschvogel by means of automation measures, clamping systems, NC programs and tools. The strategic use of scalable standard machines enables us to meet customer requirements. Besides various machining operations, numerous special processes are also carried out today. Splines, for example, are produced by cold forging in an extremely productive and precise way. Even joining operations such as friction or laser welding are possible in serial production. The spectrum of services is completed by various heat treatment processes (quality tests are undertaken in the in-house laboratory), subsequent hard machining operations and even the assembly of the parts. The entire plant and facility planning is achieved using tools from the Hirschvogel Production System.
