CHASSIS

The chassis primarily encompasses the connection between the passenger compartment and the wheels. In general, the chassis also refers to the steering system, wheels and tires, engine bearings, the brakes as well as the chassis control systems.

Chassis parts are mostly complex steel components which are produced in various manufacturing processes, including forging. In order to achieve weight savings and above all to reduce the unsprung masses, aluminum forgings are increasingly finding application.

The Hirschvogel Automotive Group provides both: at its main plant, Hirschvogel Umformtechnik GmbH in Denklingen, chassis parts made of steel are forged; at Hirschvogel Aluminium GmbH in Marksuhl the relevant aluminum parts are produced. State-of-the-art production facilities enable these parts to be produced in a fully automated way (in most cases) and with material predistribution prior to the forging process.

In addition, we also machine some of these workpieces at Hirschvogel Komponenten GmbH in Schongau so that they are ready-for-assembly. The close collaboration between the areas of forging and machining is beneficial, as first clamping and machining allowances, etc. can be agreed upon during the common part development phase. After all, short communication channels save time and thus money. Here we can provide our customers with the greatest possible value.

It is not only in the area of production that we provide a complete service, however. Hirschvogel also takes on the entire development process. Using the available space and the various load cases as a starting point, our parts can be designed and optimized using topology optimization and finite element simulations.
